COOLOOLA YOUTH SERVICE: Outings & Other Events:  Drug Action Week Activities:  21st – 27th June.  CYS is hosting a free sausage sizzle on Tuesday the 23rd from 11am to mid-afternoon at the office.  Dreamworld Trip – ‘The Natural High’ – Wednesday 24th June leaving at 7am and returning 8pm for young people aged 15-25 (not at school).  Cost is $25.  Seats are limited so please register and pay as soon as possible at the office.

Community place news

The Gympie Community Place has four rooms available for use by the community.  Through this facility, the Centre aims to provide a pleasant and informal environment at a budget price for your activity.

Rooms are available for hire between 8.00am and 10.00pm seven (7) days a week.  Minimum booking is one (1) hour.  Funds raised through room hire are used to enhance and improve the services and facilities provided by the Centre.

These facilities are located at 24 Lawrence Street

LIKE HELP IN LEARNING TO READ, WRITE AND DO MATHS?

In partnership with Solutions Literacy Nambour, Aldon Training Centre has volunteer tutors available to assist people who would like to improve their reading, writing, spelling and maths.

The tutors are trained volunteers who will work with individuals or small classes at times that are mutually convenient.  There is no fee for this service, although a gold coin contribution is always welcome.

Small classes and one-to-one sessions are available from the Aldon Training Centre in the James Nash Arcade (opposite Whispers). For more information, please phone 5482 5068.Valid from – 18 February 2009.

BECOME INVOLVED The Gympie Community Place is a wheelchair accessible and non-discriminatory neighbourhood centre that is available to the community as a resource and meeting place.

The centre is keen to attract people from local and regional communities to become members of its Association, and to invite people to become involved in developing and offering a variety of services, activities and interest groups.

As an Incorporated Association, the Gympie Community Place hosts a monthly General Meeting, which is a forum where members are encouraged to attend, participate and have a say in the centre’s present activities and future directions.

People, their ideas, energy and inspiration are the life essence of the centre.  We welcome you to come and be involved in making the centre a vibrant and relevant community place.

COMPUTOR COURSE.Gympie Community Place has volunteers available to share their computer skills with the absolute beginner or the nervous novice.  The skill sharing is aimed at the home user and is not vocationally orientated.

Sessions have no more than five people, with one-to-one sessions also possible.  There is no set agenda or course outline, which allows people’s individual needs to be met in a flexible and personalised manner.  There is a small fee charged to cover costs.

FREE LEGAL SERVICE

The aim of the free community legal services is to provide quality legal advice with an emphasis on access to justice for people who are socially and economically disadvantaged within the Gympie region.  The services offer advice and referral only, and cannot provide legal representation.  Each session is 15 minutes.

The services will re-commence in February 2009.
